En España somos muy de traducir las cosas. Esta afición nuestra es algo que termina aportando nuevos matices a las obras adaptadas al español, como que los franceses y los rusos hablen siempre con el mismo acento o que Sayid parezca Apu, el del badulake de Los Simpson. Pero si algo hace que nuestra cabeza dé más vueltas que un disco de vinilo a 78 revoluciones por minuto es cuando algún músico extranjero decide cantar sus canciones en español.
Pasó en los noventa con Roxette, que en vista de su éxito por nuestras tierras decidieron marcarse un disco entero de baladas en español que, al tratarse de una traducción más o menos literal de canciones grabadas originalmente en inglés, provoca sonoras carcajadas a poco uno deja de reírse con el acentazo de Gun-Marie y comienza a prestar atención a las letras. Pero la que se lleva la palma en esto de cantar en un idioma diferente al suyo es nuestra amiga Avril Lavigne.
En la lista de reproducción que enlazábamos ayer no pudimos evitar incluir la versión en español de Girlfriend, el single del último disco de la Lavigne interpretado por la propia muchacha en la lengua de Cervantes. Lo acojonante viene cuando te pones a cotillear por Spotify y descubres que en realidad no sólo lo grabó en inglés y en español, sino también en francés, alemán, italiano, portugués… ¡japonés y mandarín!
La cosa tiene su truco, claro, porque lo único que canta en el idioma correspondiente es el estribillo de la canción, pero ya es más que suficiente para pasar un rato fascinado ante la aparente versatilidad lingüística de la que intentaron vendernos como el reverso tenebroso de Britney Spears. En Dando la nota hemos decidido ponernos en huelga y tan sólo escuchar una y otra vez todas estas versiones de la Lavigne en nuestros reproductores musicales hasta que Amaia Montero siga el ejemplo de sus compañeras de oficio y grabe su disco en francés, alemán, chino, árabe y todos los idiomas que haga falta, para ver si así la pena compartida es menos pena.
